Madeleine (Mindl) Cohen is academic director at the Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA). Her fields are modern Yiddish literature and modern Jewish culture and history, especially the intersections of Jewish culture and politics in the early twentieth century. She also has a background in German literature. She is a translator and translation editor and directs a program for emerging literary translators from Yiddish. Cohen鈥檚 research and teaching interests include: literature about place and belonging, translating multilingual literature and reading literature through translation, and foregrounding current efforts to recover Yiddish women writers.
